BHEKA WINDOW RESIDENCY
Curated by Dineo Didi Diphofa in 2017
Founded June 2016 by Alexander Appolis and Refiloe Namise
20.05 - 30.07.2017
BHEKA is proud to announce its relaunch and programming for 2017 by its new curator Dineo Diphofa with a six week occupation by collective, Title In Transgression.
Founded by Alexander Appolis and Refiloe Namise, BHEKA is a window residency within ROOM Gallery & Projects with an emphasis on occupation and creative engagement. The window exists as a site of artistic production and interaction; informing a visual encounter between the public and the space of the gallery itself.
TITLE IN TRANSGRESSION TAKEOVER
#BhekaInTransgression is an artistic engagement with the space of BHEKA by members of Title In Transgression. Throughout the six week residency, members of Title In Transgression showcase their individual practices that frame the creative basis for the collective itself.
Framed as a #TitleInTransgressionTakeover, each member of the collective occupies and engages BHEKA for one week - following a final two period set for the collective's consolidation.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Title In Transgression is a group of four artists working collectively, consisting of Simnikiwe Buhlungu (b. 1995), Dineo Diphofa (b. 1995), Malebona Maphutse (b. 1994) and Boitumelo Motau (b. 1995). Formed in a time of frustration with the disillusionment of racial, social as well as political ills and concerned with black identity and the black lived experience, Title In Transgression seeks to creatively address these issues through multidisciplinary platforms.
